Dear Marlins Fans,
Building a new, permanent home for the two-time World Series champion Marlins is on the horizon. It has been a long and sometimes challenging road. But despite the fact that approvals did not come on February 13, we are committed to putting the shovel in the ground in July.
However, much work remains.
On Feb. 13, the Miami City Commission, after much discussion and with one commissioner absent, first deadlocked and then decided to recess until March 19 where a final vote on construction of the ballpark will be taken.
As a result of the delay in the City of Miami, there was no vote in Miami-Dade County. The county will vote on March 23rd. This time, the vote will be taken, and the meeting will start on time!
The entire Marlins organization would like to extend our gratitude to all the fans who have extended their continuous support toward the construction of a new retractable roof, air conditioned ballpark in Little Havana. Many of you have written your commissioners, spoken at public hearings and
displayed signs in support of the ballpark. You have
written letters to local newspapers and helped educate your neighbors about the
facts of the project.
Your efforts have been, and will continue to be, a critical component in making all of our dreams a reality. Now, more than ever, each and every one of us needs to stand up and say the time is now for job creation. The time is now for economic development. The time is now for the Miami Marlins. I recognize that times are difficult, and that all of us have worries that must be addressed. The Marlins, and all of Major League Baseball, will continue to do our part by providing affordable top-notch entertainment for your whole family. Baseball may not be able to fix all that ails us, but we can certainly be part of the solution.
You don’t have to be a sports fan to understand how building a new sports stadium can create jobs and encourage
economic improvements. Construction and operations of the ballpark will bring good jobs to our community, which we need now more than ever.
This project stands ready to begin construction. The Marlins appreciate your continued support and ask that you remind your city and county commissioners that the Marlins belong in Miami.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming commission meetings. Soon, I hope we will all be able to smile and look forward to generations of competitive Major League Baseball in the greatest city in the world!!
Sincerely,
David Samson
President - Florida Marlins
